Bandsaw

Just over 2 months open and things continue to develop. The Wednesday supervised evenings are always busy, being the time for social members and visitors to make use of the Space and connect with other members. The workshop has gained a couple of useful items, with a drill press and band saw from Makerspace Nanaimo and a pedestal grinder from a garage sale. We acquired a kitchen removal to be re-purposed, through Vince at Counter Measures, and with his further help, we are working to create a 13 foot length of counter top and cupboards/drawers.

Ron, a prominent member at Makerspace Nanaimo, offered us first refusal on his MP CNC router/laser table project, at a great price, so given the value of the partsand labour already put into it, we had to say yes. Thanks again to Vince for making it possible to get the 3×4 foot trolley table over to Parksville. Take a look at what the Tarantula can print …

We have created a couple of steering group committees that are actively planning Facebook and Group communications processes and also a number of planned training classes, beginning with SketchUp 3D modelling leading to 3D Printing your own models. We are also working with the local Ham Radio club to plan their next training program using the OCM facilities – so, this could be the time you should consider joining the club – members will get first access to these, and future classes.

We are working toward offering electronics and soldering classes – just bought 6 soldering kits and fans, now need to find a place to set them up.

The Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce have planned a Maker Faire to take place on Saturday the 23rd of September, at the QB Farmers Market. All kinds of “makers” are expected to be there, showing off their own particular skills and interests, so, make a point of popping inside the Hall, between 9 am and 12 noon.

Hope to see you, some Wednesday evening – come visit for free, or join in for just $5.
