Copper Etching “How To”

This is an introduction to basic Copper Etching techniques that you will be able to apply to jewelry making and electronic circuit boards!

Did you know? Copper was used in ancient times for its medicinal properties against arthritis,. The oldest copper bracelets found date back to the Iron age, around 800 BC. Today, copper is still widely popular in jewelry making in bracelets, rings, pendants and earrings.

In this class, you will have the opportunity to create designs on copper and etch them on to copper plates to create your very own jewelry.

Course Outline:
1. Safety: Personal protection
2. Learn how to make the copper etching solution.
3. Drawing transfer onto the copper plate.
4. Copper etching procedures.
5. Transform your art into a jewelry piece.

Participants: Please bring your own creations on 1″x1″ paper, Sharpies Fine/Medium and/or Paint pens, and a Stylus for scratching, and a bottle of water, not for your craft but for yourself.

Important: Wear comfortable old clothes, no open-toed footwear, long hair must be tied back and no scarves or sleeves that could present a hazard.

When: June 5, 2018 – 18h-21h

$20/person (participants 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or tutor. Minimum age required: 13).

Fee includes etchant, copper and protective eyewear.
